Summer Work Experience Program
Not your normal summer job…
The Alberta Junior Forest Rangers Programs (JFR) are exciting seven-week summer work experience programs that will expose you to unique work, educational and life experiences.
You will be introduced to the disciplines of forestry, natural resource management and environmental sciences while living and working in the great outdoors!
If you are a student aged 16 to 18 looking for a challenge, this job will give you a chance to explore career options, to gain valuable skills and to make new friends. The JFR Programs have both camp-based JFR crews, located near six Alberta communities, as wells as Aboriginal JFR (AJFR) community-based crews in host First Nation and Métis communities.
Combining forestry with aboriginal heritage gives you the opportunity to expand your knowledge of traditional values and practices and get in touch with your roots!
No two days are ever the same…
Today you could be building trails in a provincial park - tomorrow, touring the forest from the front seat of a helicopter. Crew members participate in hands-on work-projects, tours and presentations to help them gain new skills, earn certifications and contribute to the ecological and social values of Alberta’s forests.
Highlights
Sustainable Resource Development has established a scholarship in memory of Thomas Parker, a participant in the department’s Junior Forest Ranger Program. The purpose is to reward individuals who have demonstrated a high level of interest in pursuing a career related to natural resource management.
