Fighting Wildfire
Last Review/Updated: April 27, 2004
A wildfire is an unplanned or unwanted natural or human-caused fire, which requires suppression action. Fighting a wildfire not only deals with the actions that take place to put the fire out; i.e., ground and air support, but incorporates strategical placement of resources in anticipation of wildfire starts. Early detection of a wildfire, specialized equipment, radio communications and knowledge on the behaviour of the current wildfire, enhances the ability for rapid initial attack and suppression.
