Field Book Scanning Project
The Director of Surveys office has scanned all the official field books containing historical survey data related to the township system in Alberta. These field books were sent to the Alberta Government from Ottawa circa 1930. The original field books were then microfilmed and sent to Alberta's Provincial Archives where they now reside. The microfilmed field books were being used to distribute hard copies to clients.
In the summer of 2000 the microfilm rolls were scanned. This scanning produced 220 000 images. The Director of Surveys office entered into an agreement with Alberta Government Services to provide these scanned images on their Spatial Information System (SPIN) web application. The product became available through SPIN on April 18, 2005.
