Alberta Forest Genetic Resources Council

Last Review/Updated: September 9, 2005

The Alberta Forest Genetic Resources Council (AFGRC) was formed in April 2000. The Council, which brings together scientists and policy makers from the scientific community, industry and government, provides advice to the provincial government on policy issues and opportunities involving genetic conservation and tree improvement. The Council makes recommendations concerning the management of gene resources of Alberta’s deciduous and coniferous forests, to the Minister of Alberta Sustainable Resource Development (SRD). Key interest areas of AFGRC are the maintenance of genetic diversity throughout all of Alberta’s forests and genetic gain for growth and yield, wood quality and pest resistance.
