Forest Management DirectivesThe legal foundation for the management of the public forests of Alberta is rooted in legislation - Acts and Regulations. Often, the legislation provides the government discretionary powers ("the Minister may..."), which are exercised through formal written direction or policy. The legislation and regulations for which Sustainable Resource Development is responsible are listed under the Law link.
Formal direction helps to ensure an appropriate balance between provincial consistency and flexibility to deal with varying circumstances across the province, while following the requirements of the legislation.
