Forest Business
Sustainable Resource Development works to enhance the economic, environmental and social contributions of our forests and forest lands to Albertans. Forestry is an integral part of our provincial economy, and will continue to play an important role in the diversification of Alberta's economy and the prosperity of our citizens. The department develops policy and regulations related to forest industry development, forest resource allocation, forest revenues, and the export of forest products.
The Alberta forest industry is a vital part of more than 50 communities around the province, providing employment in rural areas and contributing billions of dollars to the provincial economy.

Innovation & Research
Continued innovation combined with a skilled workforce is essential to the long term competitiveness and success of the forest industry. The government supports the ongoing research and development focused on increasing the value of forest products and capturing the science to inform the best forest management practices.
