One of the best places to see bighorn sheep is at King Creek, where a mineral lick also attracts the occasional deer, wapiti or moose. Ungulates, aquatic mammals and various birds may be observed at the Pocaterra Fen, a large, wet, grassy meadow and pond area.

From the Sawmill day-use and overflow camping site, you can scan Kent Ridge and the nearby slopes for mountain goats, bighorn sheep and wapiti. Bring binoculars or a spotting scope. In spring you might even see a grizzly bear.

Watch pikas at close range along the Rock Glacier interpretive trail near Highwood Pass. Here you'll also find glacier lilies blooming on the avalanche tracks in May, while valerians, Indian paintbrushes and heathers are in full glory in July and early August.

The many different species of birds found here include bald and golden eagles, mountain bluebird, varied thrush, white-tailed ptarmigan, blue grouse, osprey, harlequin duck, Steller's jay, Clark's nutcracker, and American dipper.
