Miquelon Lake Provincial Park
The aspen-balsam poplar woodland of this area represents the northern portion of the aspen parkland belt.
This vegetation type has been cleared or seriously disturbed in many places, and it is increasingly difficult to find undisturbed areas outside of the Cooking Lake Moraine, which includes this park.

Wild roses, saskatoons, wild raspberries, buffaloberries, pin cherries and dogwood cover the woodland area.
Songbirds abound, especially species characteristic of older woodland such as western wood-pewees, ovenbirds, yellow warblers, northern orioles and rose-breasted grosbeaks.
Aspen-fringed ponds attract ducks and grebes. Freshwater marsh areas are inhabited by sora, and occasionally visited by green-winged teals, American coots and ruddy ducks. California and ring-billed gulls nest in large numbers on Gull Island.
Plains and red-sided garter snakes are common, and in the spring, wood and boreal chorus frogs call from the ponds. Look for moose and whitetailed and mule deer in the early morning or evening. The adjacent wildlife sanctuary offers many kilometres of hiking trails.
