Wildlife Management Plans

Last Update/Review: January 28, 2004

Over the years, the Fish and Wildlife Division has developed a series of management plans for several species of game animals that inhabit the province. These plans outline:

  • the biology of each species,
  • its historic population changes,
  • its status, use and management at the time the report was written, and
  • a management strategy on how the plan is to be implemented in each region of the province where the animal occurs.

Regional wildlife biologists use the plans to develop their specific strategies for their regions, which may include population inventories and the establishment of hunting regimes, for example.

These plans provide a background of information guides our conservation and management activities. New information is gathered all the time, so staff can make adjustments to management activities. Several plans have become primarily reference material. The department continually refines its techniques and approaches. As the opportunity arises, updates to management plans will be posted here.
