Grizzly Bear recovery plan published
Sustainable Resource Development has published the Grizzly Bear Recovery Plan on its website.
As a major step toward grizzly bear conservation actions, a provincial Recovery Plan is now in place with a goal of achieving a self-sustaining population of grizzly bears over the long term. The Plan details how this is achievable, and considers the feasibility of recovery from biological, technical and social perspectives. Societal considerations are an integral part of grizzly bear recovery, not only because the root cause of grizzly bear mortality is human activity, but because people’s views of grizzly bears will ultimately play a large role in determining the success of sustaining grizzly bears in Alberta.
The Recovery Plan outlines actions to be implemented during the next five years. The plan will be evaluated regularly and adjustments to conservation actions will be made accordingly.
Minister Ted Morton would like to commend the members of the Grizzly Bear Recovery Team for all their hard work and patience in developing this comprehensive plan.
