Land-use Framework will guide Albertans in managing land, resources and natural environment
Addressing future planning considerations for both public and private land is a top priority for this government. As such, Sustainable Resource Development Minister Ted Morton invites Albertans to give their input in developing Alberta 's Land-use Framework.
“This is your province and your opportunity to help shape how Alberta grows over the next 100 years,” said Morton. “We need to find a way to better balance all the competing demands on the land.”
The Land-use Framework will:
- provide the context, overall direction and decision-making framework to govern and manage land use in the province;
- guide land-use decisions on all lands, except federal such as national parks and Indian reserves;
- attempt to meet Albertans' long-term social, economic and environmental goals;
- base all decisions on sound environmental management practices.
A resource publication Understanding Land Use in Alberta and the Land-use Framework Workbook are available to all Albertans at a number of locations around the province including:
- all MLA constituency offices;
- most municipal and provincial/regional offices;
- online at www.landuse.gov.ab.ca
People can phone 310-4455 to find out the nearest pick-up location.
Albertans can learn more about land-use issues and help shape the future development of the province by:
- attending one of the public sessions;
- completing a workbook questionnaire in person; or
- completing a workbook questionnaire online.
“This is an opportunity for Albertans to join in the dialogue about the kind of Alberta we want to see in the next 25-50 years,” concluded Morton. “I urge every Albertan to get a copy of these booklets and to participate in the process.”
