Dr. Ted Morton New Sustainable Resource Development MinisterOn December 15, 2006 Premier Stelmach appointed a new cabinet team to put his priorities into practice. Dr. Ted Morton was named Minister of Sustainable Resource Development in the new cabinet. "I'm excited by the challenge of leading a department that touches the lives of so many Albertans, in so many ways, each and every day of the year," Dr. Morton said. Sustainable Resource Development is responsible for managing Alberta 's public lands, forests and fish and wildlife resources. Dr. Morton said he looks forward to natural resource management challenges, and to working with department staff to continue SRD's proud tradition of effective service to Albertans. Deputy Minister Brad Pickering retained his existing position under the new Minister. MLA for Foothills - Rocky View, west of Calgary , Dr. Morton obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Colorado College in 1971, his Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Toronto in 1975, and his PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto in 1981. In 1998, Dr. Morton was elected as a Senator-in-waiting in Alberta 's second-ever Senate election. He and his wife, Patricia, have three children. In his spare time Dr. Morton enjoys hunting, fishing, gardening, golfing and skiing. |
